FG Knot Instructions:

    1. Prepare the Lines:

      • Lay the braided line (main line) and the fluorocarbon/monofilament leader side by side.
      • Leave a sufficient length of leader (usually 1.5 to 2 times the length of the rod) for tying the knot.
    2. Overlap the Lines:

      • Hold the braided line in your left hand (if you're right-handed; reverse if left-handed) and the leader in your right hand.
      • Overlap the braided line and the leader, leaving a few inches of overlap at the end where the knot will be tied.
    3. Wrap the Leader Around the Braided Line:

      • Start wrapping the leader around the braided line in a tight spiral. The wraps should be made towards the end where the knot will be formed.
      • Make approximately 20 wraps for lines of average diameter (adjust more or fewer wraps depending on the line thickness).
    4. Finish Wrapping:

      • Once you've made the wraps, hold the wraps in place with your thumb and index finger. Ensure the wraps are snug and parallel to each other.
    5. Lock the Wraps:

      • Use your free hand to pass the tag end of the leader through the loop formed between the wraps and the braided line.
      • Pull the tag end through the loop completely.
    6. Tighten the Knot:

      • Gradually pull on both ends (the braided line and the leader) to tighten the knot.
      • Use steady, firm pressure to cinch the knot down smoothly. Make sure the wraps do not overlap or twist.
    7. Secure the Knot:

      • Wet the knot with water or saliva to lubricate it.
      • Continue tightening the knot by alternately pulling on the braided line and the leader.
      • Trim the tag ends close to the knot using scissors or a line cutter.
    8. Final Checks:

      • Once trimmed, inspect the knot to ensure there are no frays or loose ends.
      • Give a final tug to the braided line and leader to confirm the knot is securely tied and won't slip under pressure.

    Tips:

    • Practice tying the FG knot several times before using it in actual fishing situations.
    • Keep the wraps tight and neat to ensure a strong knot.
    • Use gloves or a cloth to protect your hands from line burn, especially when tightening the knot.

By following these steps carefully, you should be able to tie a secure and reliable FG knot for your fishing needs.
